Hundreds of socio-cultural activists converged at High Court Junction here on Sunday as part of ‘Arppo Arthavam’ campaign, that was organised to debunk archaic customs that attach a taboo to menstruation.A team of Tamil singers led by Kovan rendered songs that questioned interference of Sangh Parivar affiliates in the issue of permitting women of all age groups into the Sabarimala temple.
Addressing the gathering, academic Sunil P. Elayidom said that a positive outcome of the Supreme Court verdict on the Sabarimala issue was that members of the public widely discussed its legal and constitutional aspects. The verdict brought out the internal differences in Kerala society on adhering to religious customs. This would not have been the case if only experts and lawyers discussed the issue, he said. A march was taken out to Menaka. A similar event will be organised in January.
